Is it unsanitary to have a litter box in the bathroom?

I may just be extra but I feel like it’s unsanitary even if you clean it everyday and wash it out/change litter weekly like I do. 
My cat will not stop shitting in my bathtub. She’s figured out how to open the damn door so I have to find weird ways to lock it until I can change the door knob. 
Took her to the vet and the vet just said cats will do that and to just keep the door shut and that she’s perfectly fine. 
my SO it up and it said to put the litter box in the bathroom, and I just feel like that’s gross. I’m the type of person that keeps my bathroom pristinely clean though.

Um you poop in the bathroom... so poop and pee in the bathroom is really not that unsanitary? Have you tried putting a second litter box in the shower? We have a tub that I cut a hole in and put a litter box in and that's our extra litter box. Our girl doesn't like it when her litter box is a little dirty...

We keep ours in the bathroom. It's the only place that makes sense to me.

I feel like the bathroom is the best place for the litter box. I wish we had a spot in ours where I could put one but it’s in our bedroom instead. My kitten used to go in the shower too but hasn’t figured out how to open the door so she’s forced to use the litter box.

If your cat isnt going in the box, theres a problem.  Try a new box, litter, have the cat double checke dby a serperate vet and watch her bathroom habits for unusual patterns. 
And the bathroom is the perfect place for it. It's where we keep our boxes.

Surely the bathroom is the cleanest place to keep it?
Where do you normally keep it?
If you want to stop your cat going where it shouldn't put some cat food there they don't like to defficate where they eat. 
But you'll need to address the problem otherwise your cat will just go elsewhere, you need at least one little tray per cat plus one extra.
Cats are really clean animals and hate using a dirty tray so it needs to be cleaned out frequently.

Mine is in the bathroom bc there’s nowhere else to put it. Only thing is my cats gets litter everywhere from shaking out their paws when leaving the box so I have to sweep constantly.

I don’t think it’s unsanitary, but I wouldn’t want one in my bathroom.  They smell and are messy - kinda ruins the atmosphere especially if you enjoy baths or your bathroom is a space for relaxation.

I don’t think a litter box HAS to go in a bathroom (as long as you keep it clean it should be ok pretty much anywhere in the house) but I’m curious where you think is a more appropriate spot than a bathroom. All things being equal I think the bathroom is probably the best place for it.

Yeah I had mine in the bathroom when I lived in an apartment. I hated it , especially the litter on the dang floor🤮
