I’m confused .. a little lol

So my son is about to turn 9 months I am looking into getting him a car seat but I am thinking how do U ladies do it when something happens and for some reason you can not ride in your own car and have to take baby ? Do I have to un do the whole car seat and move it to someone else’s just for a quick trip to store ??
