Deleted to edit** Do you really need a changing pad for your dresser or a changing table ?

I deleted the prior post since everyone asked the same question. 
This is for AT HOME, not public places lol. 
I was planning to get a changing pad for my dresser with a cover and friends don’t think it’s necessary / I’ll need one.
Thoughts / experiences? Thanks!

I did not have one, we changed in crib or on our bed or on the floor. Or the couch. Really whatever surface was nearest. Kitchen table, lap of the person next to you. Lol. Did just fine.

You don't need one, I've been a nanny many times and would usually just change baby on the floor with a new diaper underneath. However they're really nice, especially if you make a mess since you can just wipe them off

I bought one for just the first 3 months. I figured I probably won’t use it after that, but I still wanted one until my baby is a little bigger.

You do not need one.. however.. babies have a lot of blow outs. I always preferred to take my son to his changing table until he was about 1.

You can totally change a diaper on the floor or on your bed, but if you are planning to use the dresser as a changing surface, it’s much easier to have the shaped pad to make it a bit more comfortable and keep baby from rolling. 
It can also depend on if your baby is prone to diaper rash. The more you need (creams etc) the easier it is to have a designated diaper station. (It’s also easiest to care for the umbilical stump or aftercare for circumcision while diapering, so you may have more ointments or medications to keep in the diaper station in the newborn stage than later on.) 
People I nanny for have kept a burp cloth or cloth diaper insert over the decorative cover so you don’t have to wash it as often. That has been useful!

My son is 18 months and we’re still using his. It is so much easier on my back. I don’t go out of my way to change his diaper on it but if I’m in his room I use it!

its very necessary and convenient. i change her on her changing table 98% of the time of in the middle of the night if she didn’t 💩 i just changer her in her crib and she goes back to sleep

We have one on the dresser, one in the pack and play, and two fold up portable ones that will just be around the house for wherever we feel like changing her. We have a small house right now but will eventually be moving into a much bigger one once it’s done being built, so we have a ton of changing pads for when we move so we don’t have to constantly go up and down the stairs.
