Maternity & newborn pic costs?

I’m starting to look for a maternity and newborn photographer. I’m wondering the going rate for these pictures. One photographer said she would give me 70% off for a whopping $200 for 25 maternity images. I basically laughed at her. That’s way expensive.

They are expensive but this is a job for some not just a hobby. I know professional photographers and the equipment, expertise and time are all factors. If images are edited that adds to the time frame, not just the time to set up and take the images. Especially if its their only income they factor in insurance costs of business ect too. Thats what makes the price higher. cheaper options would be a hobbiest or a college kid if not taking them yourself. Im fortunate that I have a freind whose a photographer thats offered to take my maternity pics, we trade skills as I edit for him on occassion. We found a photographer who has more expertise in newborns and she quoted us $500 for those which seems pretty reasonable having insight into the creative feild.

I’ll be paying $300 for newborn photos and that is for 8 images and 3/4 poses. All outfits will be provided.

I’d say the deal you were offered is really low. You could easily pay 500-1000. I got a maternity photo quote and it was 2500. I was stunned!

I was gifted a newborn and maternity package deal by my sister when I told her I wasn't going to pay for them haha. She chose the photographer (who does amazing work!) but I looked online and the package costs $625. 😳 I would never pay those prices myself, but apparently that's a pretty typical price in my area.

I got a deal from a photographer who had lots of weddings, family, and newborn pics but was looking to expand her maternity portfolio. She’d posted a model call for someone over six months along that could shoot end of August. I did the gown she wanted me in for solo pics but also my own dress pick for shots with my husband. Maybe find someone good who isn’t too known in your area yet. I just had to agree to sign media release so she can use my images to advertise. I paid $75.

I went with beloved through the motherhood maternity website. I paid $250 for an hour session at the location of my choice. They match you with a photographer near you then you all set up the meeting. I have 90 pictures from the shoot to choose from and I can print them wherever I like

That’s a deal. Just make sure you find out how many photos are edited. Editing can take hours, so that’s why the price is what it is. Not to mention the pre-work and shooting which could take a few hours as well. Another option would be to find an amateur photographer.
