Husband didn’t get me anything for my birthday this year and now his is this month. Should I still get him something?

My husband didn’t get me anything for my birthday this year. Didn’t even save a few dollars back to do anything. Matter of fact, he worked on my birthday. Last year, for his birthday I surprised him with a trip to Vegas. Now his birthday is this month and he keeps mentioning different things he wants to do for his birthday. I have no desire to do anything since he didn’t do anything for mine.

He could have at least took the day off or took you to dinner. He literally didn't care! But somehow just expects extravagance from you on his bday?! I would go to work and give him a happy birthday card followed by going out w my friends on his night! Whatever you decide to do, you are not wrong and do not let the internet guilt you into thinking that you are! Just like he didn't feel obligated to give you a gift, you're not obligated either! But if he plans something on his own, its okay to show up too and let him pay for it on his bday 😂 Just don't let it ruin your day! His birthday is just another day in the year now!

No one is obligated to gift you anything. You are not obligated to gift anyone anything. Its petty and selfish to not give a gift because you didnt get one. Some people arent gift givers. You need to communicate how it makes you feel when he doesnt acknowledge your birthday. I'd hate to see you cause issues in your marriage over materialism. If it's the thought that counts instead if the gift then just tell him you want his undivided attention for a few hours.

Retaliation is not a way to resolve conflict in a relationship. You haven’t mentioned you telling him how much it bothered you that he didn’t celebrate your birthday. Did he just shrug ur concerns off? Did he say he would make it up to you? 
I would never expect him to take off work- heck, i dont take off work for my bday. But yes some kind of acknowledgement is expected. 
You could even simply tell him you aren’t motivated to celebrate his bday this year cuz he didnt celebrate yours, and see what his reaction is & go from there. Men sometimes have a hard time seeing how unfair they are & how much they try to have their cake & eat it too. I hear you that it’s not fair. I’d feel the same but retaliating is not mature or healthy in a marriage.

Even if he isn’t good at that kind of thing, doesn’t mean you should punish him / be less faithful to the thoughtful person you are.

Definitely discuss and share that hurt from your birthday, remember though that hurting him back doesn’t bring you any closer together and won’t make you feel better in the long run. Real love is a love you choose, every day, even when it’s hard and you don’t want to!

I agree that you should discuss with him at least about how his lack of gifting you for your special day made you feel. Based on how that convo goes, take it from there. You never know, he might be mentioning these things he wants to throw you off-track for something he has planned for you.
