Marrying when you have a monster-in-law?

We’re grown adults and my SO’s mother doesn’t like me because I had a child when I was young. My SO loves my child and I dearly. She is incredibly rude telling him that he wastes his free time “babysitting.” We’re all happy and ready to marry but she is not going to be supportive. Do we attempt to both talk to her together ahead of time, or just send her an invite and wait for the blowup? Or elope at the courthouse and then tell her and invite everyone for dinner after? 😅
Edit to add: He has already told her how he loves us and considers my son family etc. many times.

He definitely needs to man up and talk to his mother so she knows exactly how he feels. If she still doesn’t accept it then that’s on her. My mom is the “monster in law” and because of her horrible actions, she’s no longer in our lives and I have no regrets.

You could just not invite her to the wedding. At some point, you both (it has to come from him too) have to confront her about her attitude toward you and the child. She doesn't have to like you. She does have to be civil and respect that you are (will be) his wife and that's his child. She does have to accept you two are family to her or risk losing her son
