What to expect from the pill

Hi! I’m FINALLY getting on birth control and i’m kind of nervous and just wondering what to expect! I’m 17 and i have very bad cramping and bleeding on my periods, so i got my doctor to convince my mom to let me go on it. Thank you for your advice!

I went on the pill at 17 & it caused some fairly nasty psychological side effects. It took me 7 years to realise that the pill was causing my problems and that I wasn’t a miserable, angry curmudgeon. It also affected my ability to think clearly & make rational decisions. I tried several different brands and none were suitable. I think if I’d been older when I started the pill I’d have had a clearer idea of my own character and therefore how the pill was affecting me. Having said that you might be absolutely fine with it. I would advise that you come off it if you notice side effects that don’t settle within 3 months of use to check if the pill is the cause and of course use condoms if you need contraception & you’re not taking the pill.
