Time off for dad?

Question

Curious is anyone knows if dad is able to get any paid time off, besides his vacation time?
Do dads qualify for fmla or short term disability? I’ll be checking with his employer soon, but didn’t know if anyone knew how it all works!

Someone I know works for Facebook and he got 4 months of paternity leave when his son was born. Amazon is similar. It just depends on the employer. My husband is using his paid time off that he has accumulated this year cause he doesn't get paternity leave.

My hubby can get 12 weeks unpaid, but is only using 1 week paid vacation.
But his brother gets 12 weeks paid leave for “bonding” to use anytime during the first year of baby’s life.

Our work offers 4 weeks of paid parent leave, regardless of gender. I also get STD on top of that for 8 weeks (c section). You can use the new parent leave anytime in the first year where we work, so he is taking 3 weeks of it right when baby is born and then saving a week for when baby is sick or if we want to take a family day.

My husband I believe is entitled 12 weeks of leave. It's paid, but not his full salary. I think it's a little less than half of what he earns. He did it last year with our second baby but only for 4 weeks and he plans to do the same with this baby. It's a newer thing that I think started just last year. I'm not sure if it's national or just NY, but I'd look into it. I think it's just called paid family leave. He can also take the rest of the time (8 weeks in our case) at any point during baby's first year of life.

My husband gets 12 weeks from FMLA, only 6 are paid. I think it depends on the job, he works for Southwest Airlines.

In CA my husband is entitled to 12 weeks off. His work will pay him in full for 6 weeks the other 6 weeks he can use PTO or sick time.

Dads can def qualify for up to 12 weeks off through FMLA but it is unpaid. But does guarantee job security. Dads can't use STD unfortunately, because they aren't the one physically having the baby and become disabled temporarily.
