Did you do genetic testing (pgs) for ivf?

My husband and I are 31 and going through ivf for the first time. Our RE suggested that we may not need testing due to our age, but I am leaning towards doing it if it will help reduce the chance of miscarriage, even if the chances of live birth rates are similar to not doing it (since presumably there would be fewer potential embryos for us to implant due to some having chromosomal abnormalities). Would love to hear what you chose to do, and why. We need to make a decision in the next few days as it will impact the start date of our cycle. Thank you!

I am 31 (32 next month) and we chose PGS testing. We had 8 embryos tested and 3 came back with abnormalities, so I’m glad we did it. I was bummed we lost some, until the nurse told me that pretty much no one makes it out with all their embryos and that 5 normal embryos is awesome.

My husband and I are both 25 and chose to do the PGS testing. We figured if we are going through all of this I want to make sure we have the best of the best embryos to transfer. Two of our three came back normal. The third one came back as “low mosaic” meaning it had more NORMAL cells than ABNORMAL cells. Our Dr. said it can still result in a normal pregnancy. We didn’t use that one but do have it frozen. I’m 10w+2d pregnant now from a frozen embryo transfer!

I did the testing and still had a miscarriage. So it’s definitely not foolproof, and there is a lot of mixed research on how helpful it actually is.

We did not do pgs testing at first; we only did after 3 embryo transfers that did not result in a long-term pregnancy. Our first transfer was a dud, our second transfer was a chemical pregnancy, and the third transfer miscarried at 10 weeks. It was only then that we decided to do the extra testing to see what was going on.  We have male factor infertility, and needed to use icsi for our IVF.  After using a pgs embryo, we now have a 13 week old child.

I’m 26 and husband is 34. We have unexplained fertility. We had 5 day 5/6 embryos go to CCS testing and we only had 1 embryo come back genetically normal. It’s a 6AA. If we did a fresh transfer, we likely would’ve missed our only viable embryo. It was worth the extra fee in our case😁

We are sending bc with my anxiety I want o eliminate any embryos that could cause miscarriage.  I understand there is still a risk of miscarriage during implantation, but at least I’ll know it wasn’t an issue with the embryo itself.

We did it and I think it was worth the money. We sent 11 eggs to be tested and 3 came back genetically abnormal. If we hadn’t done it we could have transferred one of those 3. It’s not full proof of course but it does give you better odds. I am 31 and my husband is 33 so we are around the same age. The way I look at it is...I only want to do this once and I’ll do whatever they suggest to have a successful IVF! Good luck!

We did PHS testing. Like someone else said above, I didn’t come this far for a mixed bag result. I only have 1 little embryo, but it tested normal. I think it’s worth it.

I had a miscarriage earlier this year. I didn't want to experience that again. It was the most painful thing I have ever been through and a trip to the ER just sucks on so many levels. So when I did my egg retrieval last month, I had fully planned to do the PGS testing. My doctor did say that I was young enough that she didn't feel I needed it (I am 35). But I just felt like I didn't want to transfer anything that wasn't going to work. We wrote a $4000 check for the testing which covered up to 8 embroyos. They retrieved 12 eggs, but only one fertilized.  I immediately had them void the check because I didn't want to spent that much money to test one embroyo. The embroyo did make it to blast, so I will eventually transfer it and hope for the best. PGS testing is a difficult decision to make because it does give you some information, but it will not guarantee a pregnancy and you can still have a miscarriage.
