Thumb sucker?

My 3.5 month old recently decided to suck her thumb, and now she does it all the time. She never took a pacifier, so perhaps this is how she soothes herself. I used to suck my thumb as a kid and it was so hard to stop. I think I was in 3rd grade when I finally stopped. Is there anyway to prevent her from this habit, or should I just let her?

My son sucks his all the time too! It soothes him too, like sometimes he’ll do it and end up falling asleep from doing it

My son does it all the time and I let him. If it becomes a bad habit, we'll help him break it at that time but a lot of kids grow out of it as they get older. I let him self soothe as much as possible because I know I won't always be around and would rather him have that one potential bad habit instead of being completely dependent on me or my husband to soothe him when he's upset.

My first is a thumbsucker. He did it constantly as a baby but now he’s 3 and only does it when he’s super sleepy or super nervous, not nearly as often as before. My family is full of thumbsuckers, some of us eventually stopped and some still do it as adults. Nobody ever had dental issues from it so my mom never made a big deal of it. I don’t intend to make a big deal of it unless he develops a dental issue.

This is just me, but I would let her.. I sucked my thumb until I was in elementary school and all i can remember is all the crazy things everyone did to get me to stop but it never worked. Kind of sad to think about.. they’d put hot sauce, nail polish remover, take my blanket I loved away.. lots of things that seem cruel to me now. I wish my daughter would suck her thumb because it’s a way to soothe herself so she doesn’t use me as a pacifier 😂 and I definitely would let her stop on her own. I don’t know any adult that still has a thumb sucking problem lol so that should be an ease of mind a little. no judgement though, do what you feel is best for your little one.

My daughter sucks her thumb too. My MIL is all giddy about it for God knows what reason and kept encouraging it when I'd asked her not to. She never took a pacifier as well. I just let her do what she needs to do to soothe herself but if it becomes a long term habit that's going to suck.
