If it's about the sex you can always find someone else to fulfill that for you and experiment with new and old things you know you like without the risk of emotional turmoil

In most situations probably not. I stayed best friends and fwb with my ex for 7 months after he broke up with me (after being together for like 3 and half years or so). I grieved our relationship and had already moved on and made the decision we were done. I'm good at keeping sex and emotions seperate. At the 7 months is when I met and started dating another man. Which is when my ex realized he hadn't moved on from our relationship and started regretting his decision of breaking up with me etc. I still talked to him and tried to help him get through it. Though I moved on just fine.
