My boyfriend and I have only been together for a year and half and are 19 weeks pregnant. I do love him and I know he loves me too. Here’s the thing, he wants the bub to have his last name (which I totally understand why he wants that) but we aren’t married yet. And I’ve heard its harder going to doctors appointments and signing things to do with your bub (childcare places, medical, insurance stuff ect) when you don’t share the same last name as your kid, and considering I’m definitely the more responsible one of the relationship (he’s just a bit too whatever when it comes to paperwork and “adult responsibilities”), I’ll be the one who will most likely be taking bub to these things and signing. (We’re only 21/22). Is it better to ask for a hyphenated last name? Till we’re married. Is that a normal thing for people to do?

* also we’re in Australia so I’m not sure if it’s different in America or other places with last names
