We live in a pretty quiet town. We'll get the occasional bit of knife crime, and there was a drug related murder a few years ago (opposite end of town), but for the most part it's only ever shoplifting and drugs. Not exactly ideal, but not dangerous either.

Until yesterday. Partner was at his computer, glanced out the window and saw 2 police cars, and a van. There were 6 armed police officers 10-20 yards away from our front door. Shortly after an ambulance arrived. We figured a fight had broken out, but we weren't sure why that would need 6 armed officers, but because our town is almost always quiet we didn't think much of it. Today, we find a very short piece on an official site (not many details released because of the nature of the investigation). So far all it says is that "a spokesman for the (armed response) unit said that a man had been seen with a handgun. The unit arrested the man and recovered a firearm nearby. The man remains in custody".

We have 2 young children. I am NOT putting them at risk by staying here.

(Side note, we live in England - gun crime is relatively low even in Cities. The county we live in, it's practically unheard of)

Edit: I don't mind staying in the same town, because it is mostly quiet, but that doesn't mean I want things like this happening practically outside my front door. Especially with two young children in the house.
