Did you have problems with breastfeeding?

FTM and I feel like I hear a lot of negative stories about women BF. I've heard how hard it is and a lot of stories about women giving up due to latching, low milk supply, PPD, etc. Just hoping to mentally prepare myself a little more in the next month or so.

My son had a tongue tie, got it fixed, no more sore nipples. Breastfed for 14months in total, stopped because I became pregnant again and he wasn't sleeping through the night. 
A lot of women (well quite a few doctors too) also seems to self diagnose with low supply. Because they haven't read/heard about clusterfeeding, what's normal regarding eating frequency, and they can't pump a lot after baby have nursed. So information and support is key.

Note, not all women respond to pumps, but you can successfully nurse for years without needing a pump.

Spurts = cluster feeding. Typically lasts 2-7days. So for some it's clusterfeeding from birth til 6+ weeks.

Breastfeeding, although natural, does not always come naturally. It is more work than I anticipated. It was worth it for as long as I could do it (7 months), but I’m not sure how you mentally prepare for it. Maybe take a class ahead of time. Make sure you have access to a lactation consultant (usually one in the hospital). Read as much as you can. Some have an easier time than others, but it’s definitely a learning experience and a journey with your baby.

I have two girls. Both had pretty severe lip & tongue ties so our breastfeeding journey started really roughly. It was important to me, though, so I fought through the pain & worked closely with lactation consultants. Once the ties were released & they learned how to properly latch, things got much easier. My oldest was breastfed until 19 months & I'm still going strong at a year with my youngest.

I had PPA, PPD,  bad latch, bleeding nipples, & an open sore from teething. Also had a miscarriage and got pregnant a third time, all while breastfeeding. We weaned at 23 months. 
My second time has been incredibly easy other than a shallow latch which we fixed!

The only issue that I had was my daughter had poor latch due to flat nipples so painful for the first couple of months, saying that I carried on and I am now still feeding her 22 months on, you can do this  😊

I didnt have any issues at all, but I am the third of ten kids and grew up around breastfeeding, so I honestly knew exactly what to expect and how everything worked. I feel like that is the difference these days for a lot of women, they didnt grow up around it at all. Knowing what to do because someone tells you is a lot different than legit seeing it.

Knowledge is power when it comes to breastfeeding. The more you know, the better things will be. So read Kelly mom (and other sites), take classes, join a few Facebook groups and most importantly don’t forget to take care of yourself. I feel like I messed up in a few ways with my first because I was uneducated. First, I was unaware of how low my iron can be which I personally believed started the downhill roll of my low supply, I should have dug deeper and requested blood work when issues came up. Secondly, I wasn’t taking care of myself! I was forgetting to eat, not drinking enough water, not taking any vitamins...your body can not produce milk when your tank is running on fumes. I was so busy with my new mom life that I forgot all about myself completely, big mistake on my part. Other things I think I could have done better is more skin to skin and more nursing (supply and demand is no joke)! Breastfeeding is super hard, no one prepared me that it doesn’t come to naturally to everyone. I hope my personal mistakes help you! I’m going to be trying again with my son when he comes next month. ❤️

I had no issues breastfeeding at all. He latched, I made enough milk, and I nursed till he was 21 months. We actually struggled with bottles. He basically threw up every time i tried to bottle feed him the first few months and we tried about 9 different types of bottles. Breastfeeding was just soooooo much more convenient.

The only problems I ever had were clogged ducts and some engorgement. Nothing bad, never phased us.
