Do you bring a gift to a baptism?

Settle the debate between my husband and I. He swears people know to bring a gift and think it’s rude if they don’t. I say not all people know to bring a gift.🤷🏼‍♀️

I have never been to a baptism before, & to me it's not obvious that it's a gift occasion 🤷🏼

Yeah, it definitely depends on the church and the culture or family. I was shocked when we were expected to bring a gift about $100 to baptisms. In my husband’s culture (syrian/lebanese) we know a family that spent no less than 50,000 on the baptism party and no one thought it was unusual at all.
So def ask around and know the social customs, but I mean you’re never obligated really, a gift is a gift.

I think this very much depends on the church you’re a part of/being baptized in and whether the guests at the baptism are also church members. My church doesn’t baptize infants, but my sister’s church does. We attended my niece’s baptism and didn’t take a gift. We did have to drive 8 hours to get there so they didn’t expect a gift from us at all since the main purpose of the trip was to get to see them and meet the baby. I didn’t get the impression that gifts were expected in their church, but I noticed there was one friend who brought them a baptism gift and I thought it was sweet! In some church circles it may be a more regular thing.

Depends on the baptism for us baptized as adults my parents each got us a beautiful bible with our names on the cover no one else brought gifts though.
