Is this a good reason to induce?

I'm a ftm, and 3 days past my due date. My ob won't let me go past 41 weeks because I live an hour away from the hospital. Is this a legitimate reason to induce? It doesn't even make sense to me. Me and baby are and have been perfectly healthy through the whole pregnancy, I'm only 1 cm dilated and my cervix is still high, so not super favorable for induction at this time and yet I've been scheduled for one in 3 days, I wasnt even given a choice. Is this right?

If you go too far past your due date your placenta will calcify and baby will get no nutrients. Your doctor is just trying to do what's best for you.

I was induced due to my baby not putting on weight at 40 weeks. Didn’t see the point in me going over my due date which I’m thankful for...
My cervix was high and no where near ready - not dilated ...had the medicine Friday afternoon and had him early Saturday morning.
I appreciate where your coming from but if the doctor thinks that’s what’s best... it’s just a week... and your baby is fully developed 🤷🏻‍♀️

Listen to ur doctor. Yes u do have DOCTORS who would deliver for whatever reason but being over date is a valid reason and I wouldn’t question that. GOOD LUCK 😊

Eventually, being over due is a very good reason to be induced.   However, doctors get really antsy the closer you get to 41 weeks and in my opinion and experience, sometimes unnecessarily so.  I’ve had two babies over 41 weeks (one induced at 41+3 and one naturally at 41+1) both were very healthy and in the 7lb range.   Most first time moms do go over 40 weeks and many make it to 41 weeks. Make sure you do your research and ask your doctor questions about the risks (not just the number of times greater you are at risk for X but get the % of risk - it’s easy to skew stats to sound way scarier than they are) and reasons why to be induced for being over due.  Also keep in mind your circumstances and how they might affect when baby will come.  I have a long cycle(which means I ovulate later than women with the standard 28 day cycle and therefore get pregnant later than my lmp indicates) family history of the women in my family going over their due dates, and my baby was always measuring a bit behind with the ultrasounds - all of which pointed to me going late/not being as far along as the standard calculations put me (while there isn’t hard science on the family history thing - I do think it’s important to keep in mind) After my first pregnancy and baby was born healthy and the placenta was still fully functioning with no signs of calcification - they were a lot less nervous the second and now third time about me going “over due”.  It’s hard to know that with your first though :) educate yourself and figure out how far over due you feel comfortable with taking into account your circumstances, the risks, and the benefits.  Waiting too long can put baby at risk for unnecessary harm but going too soon can push your body and baby into something you’re not quite ready for and lead to more interventions.  I’ve been there and it’s tough trying to figure out what to do.  Good luck and hopefully baby is safely in your arms soon!

It's typically perfectly safe in a healthy pregnancy to wait until 41+6. After that, the risks are higher for problems in labour. If you want to wait, don't get pressured into an induction earlier.

I would be fine with induction in week 41. Even if they had your due date off a bit that is enough extra to cover it. By that time you will be crazy to get baby out anyways. Here’s hoping s/he arrives in her/his own time!

Your baby turkey is fully cooked That said if you want to wait you can but OBs dont just say Lets Induce unless their worried. Some womens bodies just need a Jump start to help Labor come on.

It’s up to you but the placenta starts to calcify. I knew someone who’s placenta was calcifying 1 day past her due date. Everyone is different of course.

For my 1st pregnancy I was induced and they said it was because I was already almost at the end and since I had no sign of dilating of my little one wanting to come out naturally that they were afraid of the risk of waiting for him to come naturally and the potential of a still birth. 
It wasn’t fun being induced, but I mean look at the bright side. Either way you’re a boss who nurtured and carried that little one around this long. An you’re going to pop out that little one just a bit sooner than you might of hoped; but it also means that you get to meet your little sooner
