Routine for baby at 7 weeks?
FTM here and have a 7 week old. I’m just wondering how many of you with babies this age already have them
On a schedule. I feel like all she does is sleep all day. We still don’t have a routine and she doesn’t have a set bedtime. Our day looks like this - my sleeping is all messed up and since I’m not back at work yet I don’t have a set time I need to wake up, so to get sleep I’m sometimes waking up at 8,9 or even 10 depending on if i got any sleep that night. She sleeps in a bassinet next to our bed and if she is also sleeping that late I let her but every day is different. So when she gets up I get her dressed and change her and try to play with her a bit or I’ll feed her if she needs to eat. After a feeding she usually is tired so I let her nap. And pretty much that’s what we do all day. Then in the evening when it’s not as hot out I always take her for a walk in her stroller around our neighborhood. We don’t really have a routine at night either. She doesn’t have a set bedtime. She isn’t in her crib yet for the night but we try to let her take naps in there. The way we are doing it is I try to go to bed at 9 but I don’t take her in with me , my husband watches her and stays up until like 3 or 4am that way I can get a good chunk of sleep (especially since I’m going back to work in early October) and his schedule is more lenient than mine so he can stay up. Then around 3 or 4am he brings her in our room and she goes to sleep. We’ve tried him bringing her in at 9 when I go to sleep but I just can’t sleep when she is in there with me. She makes noises and cries and seems that time is too early for her so she’ll sleep in her bouncer in the living room while he watches her. Anyway, I just don’t know if this is all right. I know she’s only 7 weeks but how important is it that she have a routine now to set the stage for later? Or is it ok that she doesn’t yet? By the way I’m not breastfeeding, she is formula fed. I had to stop after two weeks due to a bad case of mastitis and being in the hospital as well as she wasn’t gaining weight in the beginning. She’ll also be starting daycare in mid October when I return to work which makes me really sad she has to go so young but at the same time I think maybe it will give her more of a routine and a schedule. Thanks for any advice/ insight you can give!
