Why should I pray

Question

If God knows everything , including my thoughts and needs, why should I pray?’

Prayer isn’t to inform God, it’s to bring us into intimacy with Him. God hears our prayer like a parent asking their kid about their very first day at school. He’s excited and loves to listen to us and draw close to us as we draw close to Him.

Did not Jesus say that God “knows what you need even before you ask him”? (Matthew 6:8) King David of ancient Israel realized this, and he wrote: “There is not a word on my tongue, but look! O Jehovah, you already know it well.” (Psalm 139:4) Why, then, should we turn to God in prayer? To answer that, let us consider what the Bible says about the prayers of God’s worshippers. 
God limitless memory is not like that of a computer that impersonally stores data about individuals. In fact, God is keenly interested in our innermost thoughts because he wants us to draw closer to him. “Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you.”—James 4:8 The more we share our thoughts with our Creator, the more we will draw close to him.
The Bible assures us that Almighty God answers 
the prayers of his faithful servants, but it also gives reasons why he does not listen to some prayers. For example, at a time when violence was rampant in ancient Israel, God directed his prophet Isaiah to tell the people: “Although you offer many prayers, I am not listening; your hands are filled with blood.” (Isaiah 1:15) Clearly, those who show contempt for God’s laws or pray with improper motives cannot expect to be heard by God.—Proverbs 28:9; James 4:3.
Here’s a More modern day example let’s say there a man, needs a new tool belt. He see one he really likes when it was nice real leather autumn tan color. But he doesn’t have enough money. So he prays and prays. And then it’s all sold out. But is also coming in black not as nice as autumn tan but he still wants one. So he prays and prays again. Months have came and gone Still he doesn’t gets it. Now what I haven’t told you is this man has anger issues. When he gets off work he goes to the bar drinks all his money away. Then goes home and beats his wife. His hands are filled with blood meaning his has done wrong in gods eyes. God cannot bless us if we are doing wrong.

Prayer is for your own benefit, not his. Although he enjoys it, just as he enjoys all of the things which bring us closer to him and keep us safe.

Everyone may want a Lamborghini. But it would take someone going to the dealership to actually get one. Prayer is intimate fellowship with our Father. It's choosing God as a means to the things in your life. It's relationship.

Yes most of he reasons listed by the other posters but also to strengthen your faith. When you see your prayers getting answered it strengthens your faith and encourages more prayer and bible reading. Also it glorifies God. Also the Bible talks about fighting spiritual warfare and I believe prayer falls into that realm
