Nasty Attitude?
So me and my boyfriend have been together going on two years now and things have been really great! However last night while we were watching a sermon on relationships and the separate needs of men and women in relationships, I ask my boyfriend what he thought would be the best way for me to honor and respect him. He said that I should keep doing all that I do, but also that there were times where he felt that I’m mean to him and that I could be a little nicer.
I honestly can’t dispute him saying that I’m mean sometimes because I know that what I consider to be humorous is very biting at times (even though I don’t really mean it). But we’ve been friends for six years and I thought it was something he was used to my sarcasm.
So basically his statement hurt me more than I thought it would, but nice and sweet words don’t come to me very easily. I’ve taken the love languages test and I know that Words of Affirmation is low on my list (and on his as well). I don’t want him to think I have nothing nice to say about him, because that’s not true. I just feel embarrassed when I say overly nice things, it feels like I’m putting on an act.
I don’t know if anyone will respond to this but I just needed to put this out somewhere. Thoughts?
