When to introduce

Question

When should I introduce real food to LO other then baby food and formula? He has 2 bottom teeth and about to break in the top ones. So I’m just real curious what I can give him and when!
UPDATE: bought some avocados tonight tried to let LO go to town on them and that was a fail. He hated them wouldn’t touch them so now back to the drawing board. I’m going to make some soft carrots tomorrow in the pressure cooker so hopefully that will go over better because he loves carrot baby food.

We started solids with my little guy at 6 months. If you’re as nervous as I was (and I saw you asking on another comment about baby knowing how to chew), start with something super easy for them to get the hang of, like avocado. It’s so easy to mush, that they figure it out pretty quickly, but if sliced, it’s also still big enough for them to grasp in their own hand. You can also try some mashed up sweet potato or something, since it’ll be just a little thicker than regular purées, giving your little one practice with something different.

I started my boy on allergens at 6 months. He’d had pretty much everything else as baby food except for strawberry and pineapple by that point. The first solid he had was peanut butter toast, then eggs and then strawberries. Then I just tried different foods with him from there. He’s had fruits and veggies, meals like spaghetti, lasagna, enchiladas with rice and beans. Mac and cheese, chicken, turkey, beef. Avocados and guacamole, burger, Mac salad, potatoes - regular and sweet. 
I didn’t do 100% BLW but he’s done great with what we’re doing. I do still give his sitter some baby food because I don’t want to put all the mess of BLW on her twice a day, but I also pack him fruits, veggies, yogurt, and a solid lunch sometimes. My boy isn’t picky what so ever so what we’re doing seems to work for us.

I skipped the baby food and went straight to solids, baby led weaning. I just do finger length, thinner strips of whatever I eat as long as it’s soft enough to mush with your fingers. And no honey at all in any of the ingredients until 1 years old.

You can start as early as 4 months, but most drs recommend starting foods at 6 months. Just make sure it's either pureed/mashed or cut into pieces small enough that LO can't choke if going straight to solids
