Am I wrong for not putting him on the birth certificate ?

Question

Little back story; ok so me and my now ex broke up recently due to him treating my like utter shit and continuing to come in and out of my life as he pleases I’m due in 5 days and he’s always drunk and high so I can’t even depend on him as being my birth partner. He is constantly drinking alcohol and smoking weed and making promises to me he can’t keep. He is Muslim I am not, and his family tried forcing us to get married, he was all for it and I put my foot down and said no. I’m worried that if I put him on the birth certificate he will try taking her, since he would have the same rights. I will not and am not ever going to stop him seeing his baby but I will make sure someone is always around. Since he has said to me I’ll take her etc. 
I’m giving her my last name until he earns the right to be called a father, I want to see how he treats her and if he stays around because I don’t want him in and out her life. I don’t need him on there for child support as my family are all helping, and if he does change and he is a great dad then I will change her last name to his and put him on there
Am I wrong for not putting him on the birth certificate even though I am not denying him the chance to be a father?

Not wrong but just because you didn’t put him on the certificate doesn’t mean much. He can go to court, get a DNA test and be put on. That being said it’s the same with custody, you need to speak with a lawyer

In some states if you put him on the birth certificate you both automatically have equal rights and he could take the baby without your permission. If you leave him off the BC he would need to file through court, take a DNA test, and petition the court for custody/visitation. At that point you could file for child support and request he take a drug test. I would leave him off because it sounds like he may disappear and if not you’ll want to ask the court to require his visitation to be supervised.

I don’t know where you are from, but in my state, the father does not automatically get added to the birth certificate after a paternity test - you do not have to have him on it and it will make no difference for future support. The paternity test proves paternity & the support would come from that documentation.

If you will be pursuing child support, he will need to be on it. And if he wants to petition in court to be on there, he can. 
I totally get your reasoning and agree but I would sort out pros and cons of him not being on there. I agree to give the baby your last name though.

I would still put him on. I’m not sure where you’re from but I know my cousin did not add her fathers child and later she had a lot of issues with getting different papers for the baby. And he can still have it done later,on his own anyways so you might as well.

In my hospital, we can’t put the dad on the birth certificate unless dad is present and signs an affidavit saying he is the biological father without a paternity test and they have to show an ID.
I personally would put him on because despite family and friends help, if he decides he’s going to be dad, he should help with financial responsibility. Plus, child support process is faster if he’s on the birth certificate. But I wouldn’t give her his last name until he proves himself.

True muslims do don’t drink. I wouldn’t put him on, he’s a danger to himself and definitely to a child.
