How long do you try to get baby to nap (including routine) before giving up?

Mine has been fighting afternoon nap for a while now but today wouldn't bao in the morning at all. I spent over an hour trying and finally gave up. And he was tired for sure! I was within his normal awake window and everything. Not sure what's up but I can't do this every day for sure!

If he's obviously tired it been up too long, he goes in the crib. I'll leave him there for an hour and if he's still up I'll get him out. We don't have a "routine" before nap. I change his diaper if he needs it and in he goes.

I set nap times...so up latest at 730am...first nap is 9am..depending how good or long that one is second is somewhere between 12-2...i just cut 3rd nap last 2 weeks.... but naps i let him in crib for a full hour. Nap or not..if after an hour still no naps ill take him out (though has only happenex once since i implemented nap times about a month n half ago) 
Since doing set nap times i have less and less issues getting him to sleep...he plays a little by himself for good 10-20mins and passes out

I never go out of my way to try and get my baby to nap during the day, if he's tired enough he will sleep if not he will just have to deal with it 🤷‍♀️😂

I usually wait 15 minutes, if he's still awake I bring him out for 10 minutes or so then try again. I'll repeat that around 3 times before I give up. He is on one nap a day most days.

If my son is fighting his nap I generally give it less than 15 minutes, more like 5 minutes and if he won’t go to sleep we try again in a half hour. Usually he goes to sleep easily with the second try.

We’ve had some off nap days lately too! Typically 1-2 naps a week for the past few weeks he’ll test my resolve😩🙈😅he has been sleep trained so as long as he is fed, dry, not ill or teething, I leave him be to fuss/cry until he falls asleep. He always does fall asleep but sometimes on the off nap day, it takes him 30 minutes or so of theatrics! Skipping the nap would make for a too miserable day for us both. This week it is a new dilemma though, he is going down suspiciously easy for both naps but only sleeping 1hr for the first and 30-45 mins for the second. He was at least sleeping 1hr 15mins for both for months now, prior.😣Chalking it up to this developmental leap but who knows!
