SAHMs - How is it staying home with your child/children all day every day?

Question

I may have the opportunity in the near future to become a SAHM. Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly! Is it worth it? How is it once your children are in school? Do the days become lonely and/or boring?

My baby is only 3 months. It was HARD at first.  I'm not someone who wants to be at home all the time.  It does get lonely. There's only so much I can talk to a baby, a bird, and a dog about. However, I've been able to get my baby on a schedule that works for us. There are days where I do feel overwhelmed and over the staying home. There's so much pressure as a SAHM to have a clean house, errands done, everything perfect lol I thought I would be that way.  I always had everything so organized. Lol baby says no. It is getting easier as she's getting older though. We're able to do more and even go out more. Also discovered I realllly like(NEED) coffee.

I’ve been a SAHM for about a year now. My daughter is almost 2 and I’m 29 weeks pregnant with number 2. For me, staying at home is both the best and very tough. It’s amazing because you get to see every milestone happen, when they start to talk, you know what they’re saying better than anyone, etc. But being there for every moment is also exhausting; you deal with EVERY tantrum, you are the one who gets slapped and bitten and whose hair gets pulled. It can become mundane (there aren’t milestones everyday after all), and you can start to feel run down trying to think of new and exciting things for y’all to do everyday. At the end of the day, I am so grateful I’ve been afforded the opportunity to stay home with them while they’re little, but it’s not without it’s trials.

It’s fun because you get to see all of your child’s first instead of some daycare person teaching your kid to walk and seeing their first steps or words you get to! It’s wonderful!!! You get to really watch your child grow and change day by day. Yea it requires a lot of patience and understanding. But it’s all worth it!!!! I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to stay with their kids and watch their little minds learn and grow everyday!!!

I love being with my girl all day!! It’s exhausting physically and mentally but it’s so fun seeing them do things for the first time and building such an amazing bond

My son is only 8 months old but I’m never bored or lonely lol I think even when he goes to school I’ll still stay busy. There are plenty of errands to run and laundry to do and carpets to vacuum. Plus I’ll be around to pick him up if he’s sick or volunteer at his school. We will also probably have more kids, at least one more, so I’m sure I’ll be pretty busy for the res of my life.

Being a stay at home mom is NOT for me. It’s not for everyone. I will go back to work as soon as I am able to put childcare in place. I would consider myself one of the most patient, loving and devoted mothers ever and it is still too much for me to be at home all week, alone with the babe.

My daughter is only 6 months, so that is all I can speak to. I love it. I never miss anything. I saw her roll over for the first time, laugh for the first time, etc. I get to raise my daughter and I don’t have to worry about if she is getting the same care I would give her. I couldn’t imagine returning to work after maternity leave. It broke my heart. 
With that being said, it takes some adjustment. I had to figure out a balance between caring for baby and managing the household. We had to figure out what living off one salary looked like. It can be very isolating if you aren’t proactive. I joined a lot of mommy groups and have made great friends! There are lots of things to do to stay busy and get social interaction and support. 
I was certainly not the breadwinner. Never have been. But, I was used to working since the age of 17. It made more sense for me to stay home since daycare would have cost half of my income, and we weren’t super comfortable with sending her somewhere. I still feel very fulfilled not working, even though I loved my job. 
My advice: be aware of some of the obstacles you might encounter. Possible financial strain, depression from lack of interactions, not being on the same page as your partner when it comes to expectations and roles.
I will return to work when our kids are school aged. I have a masters degree and a professional license that I am still passionate about utilizing.

I have been stay at home mom for 11 years, i have a 11 8 5 and 2 yr old with twins due in march it is the hardest most rewarding thing. I never met to stay at home but my daughter was born with 3 severe heart defecrs and a organ defect. She spent first 5 months of life in a hospital 4 hours away from where we live so i lived at the hospital the whole time, and over 11 years she has had 5 open heart surgeries 6 intestine and one back surgery and has had so many hospitalizations that i couldnt work. I am thankfully i can stay home amd go to her every appoitment and keep an eye on her health. Plus being able to raise my 3 boys and never missing a first anything going to all school functions being there when get home help with homework go to their sporting events that sadly my husband misses almost all of because of his work schedule, but it is also so lonely not having alot of adult interaction. My town is small no mommy groups or stuff like that. Its just me andy 2 yr old at home all day, i clean all day, do laundry, dishes get meals ready then kids come home and they fight so much and never seem grateful for all the work i do around the house and everything i take them too and thats just part of it. You become a mother maid and taxi service, but yet i couldnt imagine anyone else "raising" my kids while i worked.

I love being a SAHM. My days are never boring. We are active in the community and we have a busy schedule whether at home or out and about. It really helps to build a support system with other sahm's. I don't know what I'd do without my friends. My advice would be not to lose yourself in the role. Continue pursuing your hobbies and interests.

I’ve been a SAHM for almost 8 years now. I love it so much! My oldest is in second grade now and I have a 2.5 year old. Some days it’d be easier to go to work than stay home. Haha I live in a city where we have plenty of things to do so we are always busy. I’m not gonna stay home when they’re both in school, I’d go crazy. I may work from home though! My kids get plenty of socializing by being in dance, story times at libraries, we live on the lake, museums...my oldest was able to have one on one teaching by me. I am proud to say I taught her everything before she started kindergarten. And ever since she started school she’s been way ahead and tested/is able to be in gifted and talented classes. So I wouldn’t worry about socializing or learning as long as you’re willing to put the work, it will pay off! I get to go to field trips, field days, lunches, award ceremonies...anything because I don’t have a job or a boss! Financially, we are lucky enough that my husband has a great paying job so there’s no struggle there. Staying home isn’t for everyone but I am so happy I get to!
