Hospital urine pregnancy test

Can a hospital urine pregnancy test that came out negative, be wrong because it was too early? It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve tried to conceive with my fiancé. The hospital staff didn’t ask anything about when we had sex. Could it have been too early and that’s why it’s negative? Or am I just holding on to hope? Please help.
