Walk in neighborhood- buckle car seat belts?

Hi everyone,

We use the Chicco key fit car seat system for our newborn (4 weeks Sunday) and I have a question about using the car seat/stroller for walks in the neighborhood.

The newborn car seat snaps into the stroller base so when my husband and I walk in the neighborhood, I tell him the baby needs to be buckled in as if we were snapping it into the car to go for a drive. He thinks we can just put the baby in the seat without buckling since we are just out for a walk.

Does anyone use a similar car seat system for their child? Can anyone tell me if they buckle for walks that don’t require car trips first? Or even if they unbuckle the baby when they arrive at their destination so he/she isn’t strapped in the whole time? Or do you always buckle in the baby fully whenever he/she is in the car seat?
