3cm dilated but haven’t felt a contraction or even BH, normal?

I was induced with my first so I have no idea what going into labor naturally is like. I’m 38w5d...I got checked a couple days ago and doc said I was 3cm dilated. Maybe I have and I just don’t realize it.... but I haven’t felt Braxton Hicks or a contraction. I’m worried that because I’m already so dilated that once I actually start having contractions it will be really intense. Does that matter? Do they start off small no matter how dilated you are or will really strong intense ones come out of no where?
