How often do newborns poop?

Question

My daughter is 2 weeks old. When she came from the hospital she was going regularly. She is formula fed (similac) which we changed to (enfamil) she has been struggling to pass stools. Yesterday I had to help her poop with a rectal thermometer. How often do newborns poop? And is it normal for her to be straining but only passing gas and nothing else? I would ask her pediatrician but it’s a Sunday and I don’t see her till Tuesday.

My daughter is a week old today. She was pooping after every single feeding for the first few days, now it’s down to 1-2 times a day

My baby is breastfed but his doc did say that it’s normal for them to turn red and grunt when pooping. It’s the amount of poops that is important but I’ve heard that even that can vary from baby to baby

My daughter gets constipated quite a bit, my midwife said add an extra bit of boiled water to the bottle, did that for a full day and she finally went!! Poor baby looks like she’s in so much pain all the time😭😭😭

Mine poops a lot but he's breastfed and I think breast milk makes them go more. We go through diapers like crazy. Even though he goes a lot, it's still common for him to grunt and get uncomfortable when trying to poop. That's really the only time he's fussy.
One thing that helps when they are straining is to wiggle their legs around (gentle bicycle kicks or other movements). I also find sitting him bouncing him gently helps.

Enfamil has a of iron, your baby sounds a little constipated. I'd look into adding a probiotic and possibly switching formulas if it doesn't improve.

Consider giving your baby probiotics to help seed their gut with good bacteria and help with pooping. Can make a big difference especially for formula fed infants.

We’ve been supplementing with formula since she was born (2w2d) because she’s a large baby and I’m not producing enough yet. We had a day or two where she wasn’t pooping, and the doctor said it was fine but if she went another day to come back in. She suggested a warm bath, and applying a little pressure to her bum. My sister also pumped her son’s legs to get him to poop, and it definitely worked 😂
