Positive Induction Story
My husband and I welcomed our sweet little angel 4 days ago at 41 +1 after a scheduled induction. I made the mistake of googling and worried myself with reading stories about inductions that resulted in increased painful contractions and c-sections, becoming terrified that this would be my story. We arrived at the hospital Wednesday at 3:00pm for check in. After getting situated I was told my Dr has ordered cervidil to help dilate (I had only been a fingertip since 38 weeks) and was told it would stay in for up to 12 hours. It almost immediately made me contract and I endured some pretty good contractions for the next several hours. At 1:10 am my water broke and I was told I could have an epidural if I wanted, which I welcomed since the morphine and fentanyl didn’t touch my pain level. Around 4am they started the pitocin and I got some much needed rest and continued to slowly dilate throughout early Thursday. The nurse sporadically checked me (every couple of hours) and I was moving slowly, but luckily not in pain due to the epidural. Around 12:00 I was told I was about 5.5 cm and that once I hit 6cm they estimated me to dilate about a cm an hour. My brother visited on his lunch hour around 1:00 and I told him we would see him after work since the Dr thought I would deliver that night. He left and the nurse came in to check me again. I didn’t anticipate much progress but she said you’re ready, in which my husband and I didn’t quite process as “ready to push!”. The room quickly filled as staff got prepared and I began to push around 2:00pm. Baby had been pretty engaged so it took about 15 pushes and an hour until she arrived. I am in aww of how different this was from what I had read about induction and just wanted to offer some encouragement for anyone getting ready to be induced. Here’s baby Finleigh and I.
