When do I tell my boss?

I just found out I was pregnant yesterday and I’m making a doctors appointment. I’m working as a nanny currently. When should I let my boss know that I’m pregnant? I don’t want her to think I have the cold or flu if I get morning sickness and send me home 😂

Hey! Congratulations 😄 I’m a nanny as well :) I didn’t tell my boss about my initial appointment but then I told her I was pregnant at just 4 weeks. After all she’s been through it three times and I really appreciate her support! She’s actually been great with advice and telling me how things work etc. 
It’s good for your boss to know as she’ll understand if you’re tired and need some time out during the day. Also I’ve stopped lifting the big children (3&5) and at least they all know it’s not because I’m being mean haha x

Omg I’m nanny too! I told them right away because they are a doctors & their schedules are pretty intense some months. With me telling them right away, they already figured out how to change their schedule that way someone is always home starting January and the day of due date they will be taking a long vacation lol

I would wait to see how you feel. I had very few symptoms so was able to wait until 15 weeks to tell anyone (family included).

I actually told her and some other colleagues right away, after the blood test confirmed the pregnancy (somewhere between 4 and 5 weeks). I have very positive and supporting colleagues, and wasn’t planning on lying or pretending something else was going in. Not worth the energy. 
All depends on your type of boss, I guess. Mine’s supportive and empathic.

I told my boss at 13 weeks when I thought I was safe to do so because of the threat of miscarriage. You should always be upfront and honest and at what time you should tell it's up to you. You never know what could happen in pregnancy so I'd tell.

It all depends on your relationship with them. I work for a small nonprofit and everyone was just expecting me to get pregnant soon so I told them all  really early. It was my first pregnancy and i found out right during our busiest time of year. I didn’t know what symptoms i might have so I wanted everyone to be prepared. Turns out I barely had any symptoms and would have been just fine to keep everything a secret 🙊
