When did you go on Maternity Leave?

Opinions please...especially if you live in California 🙂 and did you get paid if you took leave weeks before the baby came. Thanks!! 
I’m currently 33 weeks and trying to determine when to go on leave. My last pregnancy I worked all the way until I went into labor at work. This pregnancy I’m just really tired, but want to try to continue working. I think CA allows me to go on leave at 36 weeks... 
How I feel with a 1 year old also running around the house...

Where I leave I can take 4 weeks before my due date then 6 weeks for regular birth and another 6 weeks bonding time.  Even if they didn’t offer the 4 weeks before I would still take it to help me get prepared.

I went to work in labor because I didn’t believe it was actually time 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ so my maternity leave didn’t start until I had my son.
When I get pregnant this time around, I’ll probably stop a few days before my due date to spend a little one on one time with my baby before he becomes a big brother.

I went until 36 weeks and then quit to stay home permanently. It was so nice having that extra time to clean and have have everything ready. If you are mat leave with limited time I would go as long as you can so you have as much time with the baby as possible.

If your dr. Puts you on bed rest during the pregnancy in California you can claim 6 weeks of disability then when the baby comes you can take your 12 weeks of fmla.

Gosh - it’s so different in America. That’s awful. You guys shouldn’t have to go back to work that early ☹️ Sheesh! Kudos to all you amazing mamas who have to go back right away and make it work ❤️

Also keep in mind that in cali you have to work full time the month before you leave

I'm going at 38 weeks. I have a week or so that's PTO time or unpaid depending on how much PTO I have by then, and then I'll be doing 6 weeks paid.

Definitely check with your employer. I moved out of the Bay to NJ and I can’t take any paid leave (unless i use personal days, vacation days, or sick leave) prior to having my baby. I’ll just be on FMLA. Versus my cousin who received 4 weeks paid leave starting at 36 weeks in the Bay Area. Really look into your employers policy.
