Helmet?

Hi mummies, my baby girl head is flat especially on the left side. The Pd suggested to wear her helmet before 6 months and I didn’t do it because of the cost. Now she is going to be 7 months next week. Is it too late to wear helmet now? Would like to know if anyone’ else baby goes for helmet treatment after 6 months and improve the head shape. TIA

I would bring it up to your babies doctor. Do to how flat the back of the head is I think it's better late than never :) but I would discuss with the pediatrician

I would ask the question now rather than waiting till the 9 month appointment. By chance does baby have a "kink in the neck". Both of my daughter did, dd1 did stretches and a helmet was brought up as maybe something but the stretches helped correct the flat spot. Dd2 did the stretches but she dudnt really have a flat spot so no mention of helmets.

I would contact her doctor. Another thing that might help is taking her to the chiropractor to see if she is out of alignment. Does she turn her head both ways equally? It seems that she would be favoring and side more than the other- they can help with that! Our doctor also recommended physical therapy, because my son had a condition called Torticollis that prevented him from turning his head both ways equally. We started at 4 months with physical therapy & going to the chiropractor and avoided the helmet.

I would see if you have any Early Intervention services in your area. They will be able to provide physical therapy and most programs offer a sliding fee scale for service so most of the time services are free. They may also have resources for obtaining the helmet at no cost.

It is NOT TOO LATE, some babies don’t start therapy until they are almost 1 year old. What she has looks like plagiocephaly the same kind of “flat head” my daughter has. She is 6m and started a few days before turning 6m. we don’t have a time frame. She’s been in it for about a week. We use hanger clinic, our neurologist referred us there. Our pediatrician blew off the helmet but she needed one (hers isn’t as severe as your daughters looks). I would defiantly reach out to early intervention, at this point her head might start to even out but really it’s a 50/50. Plagiocephaly starts on the womb, we noticed our daughters when she was born. Good luck mama!
