Ferber method?

Talk to me about it.. I was really against letting baby cry it out but we’re both desperate for more sleep

My husband and I just did it. Best thing you will quite possibly ever do. We are on week two but realistically it only took about 5 days before he was sleeping/putting himself to sleep. Now I’m not gonna lie, we are still using a paci but we do the “paci sprinkle” where he is able to find a paci himself and replace it and go back to sleep. He wakes at around 2 and whines for about 4 minutes until he find his paci and goes back to sleep. I think just simply him being in his own room made a huge difference. He will be 7 months old last week. Trust me, the little amount of crying is okay. You’re going to check on him and he knows you’re coming back. That’s why they say wait until he realizes that you’re still around even if he can’t see you. I highly suggest reading the book and ignoring bashers on the internet that haven’t even read the book. We were waking up every hour-hour in a half and now we’re sleeping all night basically. But if you’re not preheated to stick to it then don’t do it. Because if you give in, it’s just unnecessary stress on you and your baby.

Also, I want to stress how important our nighttime routine is. I’m positive it’s going as smoothly as it is because when we start our routine, baby knows what’s coming. Ours looks like this: last bottle of the day, bath, sing song (same song every night) while putting pajamas and diaper on, put him in his sleep sack, read short nighttime story (“While you sleep, little love”- again same story every night) and then while I’m still holding him, close blinds, turn on sound machine (white noise with ocean and thunder), turn off light, hold him to me for just a minute or less and just kiss him and say “goodnight I’ll see you in the morning”, and lay him down. Awake. This is all very calm and not playful but sweet. My husband usually does the bath and reads the book part. I sing the song and cuddle before putting him down. It doesn’t seem to matter who’s doing what because often my husband gets called into work and I have to do nighttime routine by myself and it works just fine. Someone told me that we should try to stick to his nighttime sleep and routine 80% of the time or more. I know weekends are tough because you want to go and do stuff but the past few times that we’ve been out of our routine it didn’t seem to interrupt his sleep much. Sorry, I know this was long but I want you to be encouraged! You can do it! It really wasn’t as hard as I make it out to be in my head

This is night 3 using this method for our 6 month old. I thought he would cry for hours but he was asleep within 20ish minutes the first night and only up once crying but was back asleep after 10 min and only 1 check-in. Last night he fell asleep after only 1 check in and didn't cry the rest of the night. You have to give it a try. Its nice to get some good sleep again!

Ferber was too stimulating for my daughter. We did extinction and she has been sleeping 12 hours a night since night one! 😊

Im in night 3 and its been great. He cried a lot the first night but the second night only 2 minutes. I am also weaning the night feeds he cried a bit more night 3 but its a huge positive change. Try it and be consistent! Good luck!
