AmI bring petty/wrong?

My boyfriend and I have been together for 7 years. Throughout this relationship he’s always told me that I could have the ring he always wears one day. It’s sentimental to me because I used to have very bad anxiety and he would give it to me to wear so that during hard times I could think of him. Well last night I noticed he wasn’t wearing it and I asked him why he wasn’t wearing it (he always wears it so it was weird). He said he gave it to a girl he works with to keep because she said she thought it looked cool. I told him the ring meant a lot to me and I thought he said it would be mine and he told me to stop being shallow and selfish and to get over it. He said it was just an object. To me it wasn’t about the actual ring, it was about what the ring meant to me. I asked him if there’s something he needs to tell me/if he likes this girl more than just friends and he blew up at me and stormed out of our house. I haven’t seen him since, he never came home or answered any of my calls. Also today is my birthday and I just feel heartbroken that he did this and that he won’t communicate with me. Am I wrong?
