Car seat clips, am I overreacting?

I'm a nanny. I've been with this particular family for over a year now, and I watch two boys ages 6 and 8. I frequently take them to and from school, so I use their car seats when traveling. I know when you put the seats in your car you're supposed to clip them in using the clips in the back as a safety measure. I do this every time, and make sure they are secure. 
Well today, I had to swap out their car seats with their father, and noticed he just set the seats in the car without using the clips. I casually mentioned that he should use the clips for the boys' safety, and taught him how. Afterwards, I texted the mother about it, and she said that she didn't use the clips either! 
I feel that it's important to do these things to keep children safe. Isn't it dangerous to have a loose car seat in case there's an accident? Or am I overreacting? Does it really not matter all that much? Regardless, I'm still going to keep doing it, but I wonder if I should bring it up again to both of them or just leave it be.

No you’re not over reacting you’re making sure your kids are safe just Incase they do get into an accident! The car seat wouldn’t come with something they should use if it wasn’t dangerous not to use. They should definitely be using everything that came with the car seat for the kids safety! That’s why they made them like that is so that just Incase they do get into an accident they won’t fly out the door or the windshield. I would definitely be telling them to use every safety thing that car seat has on it.

Tbh, they aren't your children so if it's not illegal, they're not doing anything wrong. Yes, it's a safety measure and I'd continue to do it, but it's not your place to tell them what to do with their children when you aren't CPS.

If they’re in boosters and have hit a certain weigh they wouldn’t be anchored.

either way, you’re not in the wrong for simply showing him how to use the clips. it’s for the kids’ safety.

I mean your not wrong. But a seatbelt is secure as well. They’re a instructions on the the car seat to use a seatbelt. I always use clips but my new car doesn’t have the anchors so we just have to use the seatbelt. But my boyfriend doubled checked for me to make sure it’s as secure as possible.

What the fuck??? Are they really that incompetent and been doing this for years?! They will slip right out of those car seats without them being clipped!!! I can’t even imagine. Might as well put them in the car without car seats they would be safer.

You should only use lower LATCH or seatbelt, not both at the same time. With the exception of the top tether that should be used if forward facing.

If you’re talking about bottom latch anchors you may want to read the car seat manuals bc they have a weight limit. Most cars don’t have a top anchor location so it’s safest to use just a seatbelt, car seat manual is best bet here
