Clomid follicle check? Twins?

I am doing Clomid with OPKs for IUI. I see a lot here getting follicles checked to avoid multiples?. And some even put off IUI due to higher risk. My dr didn’t mention checking, is this normal?

I got an ultrasound on day 9 and scheduled to go back day 11. They are checking the maturity of the follicles to time the trigger shot. It makes sense to get an ultrasound to see the effect of the medication, that way you know if you have 1 mature follicle or more. This is my first month, so it’s all new to me too!

That is odd. Im on iui #4 and my insemination day has been different every cycle (between 11-14) depending on how my body responds to meds. One cycle i went in day 9 did an u/s was ready to trigger , another cycle i went in day 9, not ready, day 11 and day 13 for monitoring and finally iui on day 14.  Also, one cycle got cancelled because i had 2 large cysts which can cause big problems. I definitely would ask about monitoring. Are you triggering or are you just doing home opks? I do home opks as well only because i have a history of ovulating so early we don't want to miss it.

Absolutely, you should be getting checked if you are doing iui. Have you not had any ultrasounds? What about the baseline done at CD 3?

Are you seeing an obgyn or an RE? If you’re doing iui, they should be monitoring with US to ensure perfect timing with a mature follicle. Sometimes obs don’t know to do that and just go off “normal” timing-I would push for monitoring.

I was on Clomid for 5 months, I got ultrasound regularly, not only to make sure that I wasn't at risk for multiples, but also to make sure that I wasn't forming cyst on my ovaries. I would talk to your doctor about why this is not a concern for them
