Sperm damage?

Question

So I read that when doing insemination, you have to use the medicine dropper (both sucking up and injecting) sloooowly so as not to damage the sperm. 
Does anyone know what happens if the sperm ARE damaged?? Would it just lessen the chances of pregnancy, or would there be a high chance of something wrong with the baby?

I do at home insemination! I use a Pipette to get the sperm out of the vial and them slowly dispense it into the syringe. If you do it too fast it will just make the motility of the sperm lower, as in there won’t be as many that are alive. I hope that makes sense.
