Whooping cough vaccine?

Is this mandatory? 
What’s it actually for? 
Why am i being recommended to get it?

It's to prevent whooping cough and should absolutely be given. Whooping cough is a horrible disease that kills infants. I got the shot while pregnant both times, will be getting it this time if offered, and both if my children got it as soon as they were able to and this baby will as well.

It's not "mandatory" but I'd say if you want to protect your child from a lethal illness it's necessary.

I’m on the fence. It hasn’t actually been tested during pregnancy so they can’t say if it’s truly safe or not. The reasons drs push it is because they are told to(which just started a few years ago). It’s rated a Class C because they’ve only tested on animals while pregnant. They go through after and see what it causes in humans. Even with the vaccine you and baby are at risk and can catch it. The vaccine triggers the mothers immune response, that can also cause harm to baby. They can’t give statistics because its not tested. Definitely do  your own research and not just from sites pushing it. Really look into it before making a decision. I still haven’t made my decision

I always get the flu shot while pregnant and got the whooping cough vaccine last pregnancy.  My only advice with it is make sure you aren’t already feeling ill.  Most negative reviews with both are that it “made them ill.”  The shots don’t make you ill, they’re dead viruses, but if your body is already fighting an illness it does lower your immune system temporarily (as it is supposed to) so you will get sick.

I’m getting that this Thursday, I’m also getting the flu shot, it was highly recommended because it’s winter and around this time a lot of people will be getting colds and flus :)

It is highly recommended because newborns aren't able to get the vaccine so when we get it while pregnant it passes through to the baby and protects them until they can get it themselves. You usually only need the vaccine every like 10 years but when pregnant they want you to get it to protect the baby. Whooping cough in an infant or small child is terrible. We thought my second son had it but it turned out to be RSV. But either way it's definitely your choice. I choose to get it because it's just a small shot in my arm and only hurts for a few days and I'd rather go through that than my baby go through whooping cough and possibly die. Especially because there are so many older people in my family that are always sick(coughing) and they could have whooping cough and not even know it and give it to my newborn..

Absolutely not mandatory they cannot force you to have any treatment or testing without your consent. I personally do not recieve any vaccines while pregnant and delayed my sons. He didn't get the DTap until 6 months and that is the only shot he has had and will have in his first year. He's never been sick. I simply dont allow people who are sick near him. Its your personal decision on what you do vaccine wise.
