Newborn gained 5lbs in 6 weeks!?

So my baby was born at early, at 36+4 weighing 6lb 13oz on 8/23. He was 6lbs 6oz when we left the hospital. We were just at the doctor and he weighs 11.5 pounds at 6 weeks and 4 days old! He is exclusively breastfed and the doctor said it’s fine, but has anyone else had this experience? When did baby’s weight gain begin to slow? Will I have a 60 pound one year old?!? (Joking -kind of 😬)

My EBF son gained just about 4 pounds from birth to 6 weeks old. His weight gain started to slow down at around 6 months old when he become more and more mobile. Newborns tend to gain a lot in a short amount of time in the beginning and gradually slows as they age. It’s normal and highly doubt he’ll be 60 lbs at one year old! 😂

It’s normal. Breastmilk has lots of fat so baby’s just chunking up lol. My 9 month old is 24 pounds and her doctor said she’s overweight but not concerned because she’s not walking yet

My son gained 5lbs and grew 5 inches before 8 weeks . Once he turned 4 months he slowed down with weight but he’s still super long , totally normal . He’s breastfed as well
