Does the mucus plug have to come out before contractions start?

Pretty sure my contractions are starting - I haven’t lost my mucus plug and my waters still in tact. Just trying to figure out the order of events. #clueless 😅

The mucus plug coming out could just be a sign of labor starting soon but it doesn’t have to happen before contractions start. With my second and third pregnancies it didn’t come out first.

With my first my water broke and I went to bathroom and that's when I lost my mucus plug. Then the contractions started. Five hours and my baby was there

Didn't see plug ever.  Water was broke right before pushing.  Only contractions were a sign 🤷‍♀️

You can lose it and it’ll regenerate. I didn’t lose my mucus plug until I was in active labor. It came with my bloody show.
