Should the parent of a child update the other parent even if they don’t ask for it?

I ask because I am my sons sole parent and I was always updating his father even when he didn’t ask for information like how he was doing, what new thing he’s learned, videos of him speaking etc .. now my son is 14 months and I feel like if his father is still not asking why should I keep forcing him to care or allow him to see the wonderful things going on with him.

I’d just simply ask him if he would still like to receive updates. If not then you have your answer. He may just be accustomed to you giving the updates he doesn’t feel the need to ask.

If he’s involved, yes.  If not, no.
My ex isn’t involved with my first two so I never update him on anything and he doesn’t ask.
My newest peanut, SO works out of town for 2-4 weeks at a time.  He’s involved when he’s home but doesn’t always know what we’ve got going on when to ask for updates.  I send him a daily picture and let him know anything that’s going on that day.  Today we had a weigh in and a lactation consultant appointment so I’ll send him info on that.

In situations where the parents are both actively apart of the child's life and coparenting is successful, yes I think its important to update and be open to continue a healthy relationship. In those cases typically there is a happy response from the other parent, at least thankful. This, not necessarily, he does not sound interested and you have custody. Hes not going to suddenly start caring after seeing a video of your baby laughing or talking. If he wanted to be there he would, if he wanted to know he would ask and respond to your attempts to include him. If hes responding, great, maybe you are getting somewhere, if not I wouldn't put that effort in.
