Moms am I doing this whole sleeping in his own bed wrong

My son just turned 1 and he's been safely sleeping with me every since he was born...

My husband tells me its time for him to be sleeping in his own bed so we brought his crib in our room...

Because we are trying for another so the new baby be co-sleeping and he be our big boy right next to us in the same room.

We normally rock him to sleep n then once he falls asleep we lay him in there well maybe 4 or 5 hours later he wakes up crying because he realizes he's in there

So I normally pick him up rock him back to sleep and place him in there n he's good for the rest of the night

Its so hard to hear him cry n not go to his rescue

Me n my husband just got into a heated discussion because he feels like im spoiling him n our son will never get use to his bed if I pick him up when he cries

See im a firm parent but not a cruel one in my eyes he's only one n as time goes on he will eventually be sleeping in his crib without mommy but rn he wants comfort and im going to give it too him

Ladies I want honest opinions is my husband right and I just need to let him cry it out???

Since I keep picking him up does that interfere with his ability to get acquainted with his new environment

Be honest please and any advice on things to try will be nice
