Church wedding
My fiance and I got engaged in July and we booked a gorgeous venue for our wedding in August 2020!! I am so fricking excited! But apparently his parents (who are Roman Catholic) assumed we would get married in a church like the rest of the family has and are upset. Im not Catholic, or religious at all, but was baptized as a baby, and I told them this. They want us to have a ceremony in the Catholic Church before our actual wedding...but in my research, there is A LOT of hoops to jump thru to do this and it takes at least a year. Obviously we don't have that kind of time. We contacted a couple parishes but no word. I told my fiance about this (he legit thought we could call and essentially walk in to get married anytime 😂) and he doesn't really seem to understand the conflict.
I don't want to alienate or upset his family but neither myself or my fiance are religious and we can't/don't want to move our wedding date. And I think it's stupid and somewhat even more disrespectful to marry in a Catholic church you dont go to and will never step foot in again just to say I do in front of 10 people.
What do I do?! Thoughts?! Opinions?!
