Delayed???

My son is eight months old as of today & I’m getting worried that something may be wrong with him. He was a born a month early so I’m wondering if his delay might be due to his premature birth. He still can’t dig unsupported yet & hasn’t made any attempts to even crawl. What should I do?

There's a very good chance that being premature will cause slight developmental delays. My daughter was full term but just started sitting up on her own and crawling within the past few weeks. Every baby learns at their own pace

Ask for a referral to a physical therapist! The earlier you get help the better and being premature definitely changes the timelines a bit. A PT will know exactly what is it isn’t a big deal and will put you at ease even if they don’t need to intervene at this point.

It’s normal for them to not be able to sit unassisted until 9 months and if your baby was born a month premature then the adjusted age is a month less than the birth age (so if your baby is 8 months old, they will be 7 months old adjusted due to being born a month too early).

My son was a month early also and is almost exactly where yours is at. He does sit up unassisted but will fall over still and definitely not crawling. He can roll all over and over the past week he tries to scoot but that’s it. He also has no interest in standing. Not even if we hold him up on our lap. I know he can use his legs just fine cause he’s done it before. I’m thinking he’s just lazy lol but I’m still going to ask our pediatrician just to set my mind at ease

I agree with the other comment. And there’s a loose guideline. If they’re not doing these things by 9 months they need to be assessed by a pediatrician. Apparently this is the latest babies should be doing these things. Prem babies have a little excuse but it wouldn’t hurt to have baby looked at physically to see if theyre just lazy or have physical hinderances to their development.
