Controversial Topic! Santa Claus

Ok I’m kidding.

But I have a question. We are atheists and celebrate Xmas (for many of the reasons listed by others in the Christmas post). But I don’t want to do Santa. The primary reasons are 1) I’m terrible at subterfuge, 2) it’s more work than I want to put in, 3) seems weird to do Santa when we don’t do the religious stuff, and finally 4) there is not a magical man with unlimited resources giving you presents. It’s us, damnit!

My husband thinks Santa is fun and was surprised that we wouldn’t do it. He doesn’t really care one way or another, luckily. I was also worried that my mother would think I’m being a killjoy but she said “Yes! It’s just too much work!” Other relatives might be judgy but I’m not worried about that.

For those who don’t do Santa and who have older children, how do you communicate to them to keep it from their friends? Did any of you have issues with relatives? My son is almost 2 so we’re kinda coming up on that age when they’d probably start to get into it.

Or do you choose to do Santa? That’s cool too!
