Do you think the quality of giving birth has gone downhill? (US specific)

St

I was talking to a co-worker of mine who used to be a paramedic and she was telling me how most of the pregnancies she has seen (not from 911 calls but when she was in school) they get were rushed in C-section even if they weren't 'emergencies'. She noted how she no longer sees all natural births and doctors prefer to do c sections instead of allowing a women to give birth vaginally and especially natural. I know natural birth takes a while. I know epidural induced birth takes a while. I do think the doctors are pushing for c sections more often.

I do understand cases where a c section is needed but how she was wording it, it seemed that they wouldn't even give a women the chance to give birth how they wanted to.

Now my neighbor is pregnant and they found a potential cyst on her babies heart. But the thing is the nurse said don't worry about it. We spoke with a friend who is an RN and she states that they have to say that as a liability and the baby might actually not have it. That was interesting to hear because I would freak out after an appointment like such! She is also being pushed to get the epidural when she does go to labor because "she's young and won't be able to tolerate the pain". She's an adult and women have been giving birth without pain meds for years.

I don't have any babies, but I know from different friends how tramatic some of their births have been. One of my friends have birth and she felt like it was done so aggressively and the nurses didn't care for her constant back pain that after birth she was bed ridden for 3 months. And she was having difficulties getting the baby to latch because she couldnt slouch over or sit upright in her bed/chair. Since they classified her birth as uncomplicated because the baby did come out fine, she was released in 48 hours.

So my question to you is that do you think giving birth has changed to be worse in these recent year than the older years? Have your recent births been difference? Better? Worse?I know the US has the highest mobility rate when it comes to child birth.
