Cutting my hair and getting yelled at?

My husband yelled and got mad at me because I told him I wanted to trim my hair. He replied no!! You don’t need to!! I tried to explain that’s why my hair doesn’t grow because the ends are dead and hair just keeps breaking and going upwards. He yelled at me and made me get away from him. Is that normal?
