Can I use this type of car seat for a newborn?

It says 5-40 pounds but I’ve never heard of anyone using one for a newborn before🤷🏻‍♀️

I would suggest always starting a newborn out in an infant car seat and not a convertible...but that’s just me. 
I also really think you will benefit from having the base to remove the car seat with baby sleeping inside

You definitely can use a convertible seat from birth, but I personally would not use this particular seat. I have this seat, we use it for travel because it’s lightweight and super affordable, but it’s an absolute barebones seat with no head support for newborns, no covers on the straps to stop them from rubbing on baby’s neck, and the straps get twisted easily which is annoying (and unsafe if you aren’t careful to always untwist them). 
Here’s how a newborn would look in that seat:

There are many other options like these that would offer much better support for a newborn if you do decide to skip the infant seat.

We did. Didnt even buy an infant seat. I preferred to wear a baby carrier than carry around a carseat. Just depends on your parenting style. 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn’t use that one...There’s no support for a newborn unless it’s not pictured?... And it sucks taking out a newborn from those seats. I did it for a week and switched to my infant seat. Plus my hospital didn’t let me leave unless I had the infant seat. I would double check with hospital?

Both of my babies have used a convertible in my car from birth. They had an infant seat in my husband’s car. We never had an issue with the convertible but we have one with more padding for a newborn.

To answer your question, yes you can. 
We used a Graco MyRide 65 from birth with no problems. It came with some extra padding though and I rolled up receiving blankets to put on the sides of baby’s head for added support as well.
Cosco is a cheap brand, I got nothing against it though. Personally I’d recommend spending the bit extra on the Cosco MightyFit 65 instead of the Scenera model. We have it for our now 3yr old and it’s got more padding and higher weight limit for longer use.

I have this seat as my son’s travel seat. I wouldn’t recommend it as your primary seat for a newborn. It never felt secure enough for me when my son was super small. We used a Graco Extend2Fit from birth for him and never had issues of any kind!
