Should I work Black Friday?

Question

I am a sales associate at a Bestbuy, so I’m on my feet walking pretty much all day. I’m due December 20th and am a high risk pregnancy (my first was born at 26 weeks). I’ve talked to my manager about when I’m going to start matleave, he’s fine with me leaving whenever I feel is necessary, but has asked if I think I could work Black Friday. Black Friday is November 29th, I will be exactly 37 weeks. I keep going back and forth 😕

Absolutely not. I use to work there years ago and it’s always a mess on Black Friday. Please don’t do that to yourself especially since you said you are high risk. Take the day to put your feet up!

If you want to work, can you have your job duties adjusted for the day? So that you are not in harms way with the mob of people & aggression that tends to sometimes come with Black Friday.

If you feel like you could, go for it. I work 13hr days on my feet as a nurse in a critical care unit. We are the busiest hospital in our area and it is extremely stressful and physically demanding. Many nurses have worked up to their due date and the last nurse who was pregnant worked while in labor and had her baby hours later. She felt she could do it and she did so it's definitely possible. My baby is due Christmas day which is my set holiday to work this year and I'll be working until I give birth myself. I've learned to train my mind and body not to stress out in my work environment even when crap is hitting the fan constantly. But it's a personal decision and how you deal through stress and what you feel like your body can handle.

Im a manager and work Black Fridays, this year I won’t. I’m actually starting my leave the first week of November. I’m lucky I won’t get to work any holidays this year. But I wouldn’t work it. Unless they let you have a chair at the register.

It’s honestly up to you. I mean if you’ve been fine on your feet the whole time and want to work up until then, then go ahead but if you already have the baby or if you are having a difficult time being on your feet all day then maybe say no. If you do work I’d say to make sure they only have you work like a typical 8 hour shift and nothing more than that though.
