Does an electoral candidates religion have an effect on your vote?
The Canadian federal election is currently going on and I am curious if others take their candidates religion(s) into consideration when placing their vote? I make sure to research this about each candidate before voting. Mainly because their religion could have a direct impact on their views and actions. This year I came across this article about the Conservative party leader Andrew Scheer. Basically he has declined to participate in the annual Pride parade three years in a row. It just so happens that he is a practicing Roman Catholic and in that church they teach that “... “homosexual acts” are “intrinsically immoral and contrary to the natural law” and that even such tendencies are “objectively disordered.” **taken from article posted below, not my words and obviously ridiculous**. He also voted against equal marriage in 2005 further showing his lack of support to the LGBTQ community. He is against abortion and assisted dying as well. I 100% would not support someone with these views even if I liked every other part of their campaign. Obviously some candidates can be religious and not have extremist views, but in some cases they can so I would personally prefer to vote someone in that has no religious affiliation if there was that option. What are others views?
