Need dog advice

Hey everyone. I need some advice. I have a 2.5 year old chocolate lab. Had him since he was 7 weeks old.

He knows his commands and listens for the most part.

My question: How do I prevent him from running in the house?

Yes. He’s still a young pup. I understand he has a lot of energy. He gets his daily exercise. The type of running he does are not the “zoomies”

Like the running I’m referring to is him running instead of walking.

Let’s say I’m in the room, I call him, and he runs to me. I take him to potty and he runs down the stairs all the time (causing me to almost trip and fall)

Heck he runs up the stairs once he’s done outside.

I’ve tried the leash method. Where I put him on a leash and walk him outside or keep him close to me to try to break the bad habit of running. He does alright. He listens.

I am due with our first in 4 weeks. I can’t keep having him run. He never walks. Only when he’s doing his own thing. He almost knocked down my 6 year old brother the other day because I called my dog over to the other room. Again, these aren’t the “zoomies” where he gets excited and runs like crazy. No. This is actually him running right past you to get from point a to point b around the house.

It’s a 2 story house.

Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
